From Pastor Ed: “It is on my heart to remind you of two principles of Christian sharing. One is that God’s direction for God’s people in the Bible (and in millennia of Christian tradition) is based on proportionality and faithfulness: we strive to give a portion, a fraction of what God provides. There is precedent for giving a tenth of income or harvest, but there are examples of many other proportions of giving (all the way up to 100%!). The second principle is that offerings are always an act of faith. In times of plenty or times of seeming scarcity, sharing is an act of trust that we are participating in God’s larger kingdom. With all acts of trust, we are choosing to take a risk. Our faith is that God will take care of us.”
Unless otherwise designated, all donations will go toward the church’s General Fund (regular budget). If a donation is meant for a special purpose, please indicate that on the check or envelope. If your gift is a memorial, please name the person being remembered. There are a number of other funds that receive special donations, including the Capital Fund to help retire the loan on the recent parsonage renovation, as well as foundation repairs, new HVAC systems, etc.; the Music Fund to support our music program; the Youth Fund to support the youth ministry of the church; the Endowment Fund to help provide long-term financial security for the church and to fund special projects as determined by the Endowment Committee. In addition, gifts can be designated for the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund, UMCOR, AGAPE or a number of other Methodist ministries. For more information about the many avenues of giving to global missions through the United Methodist Church, visit UMC Giving. Speak to Pastor Ed about other ideas for special gifts.
Give the “old-fashioned” way.
Just drop your gift of cash or check in the offering plate provided during the weekly worship services. If you are giving cash, please use any envelope with your name written on it, if you wish to have the donation credited to you for tax purposes.
Mail a check. You may choose to mail a check to us. The church mailing address is Long Memorial UMC, PO Box 310, Roxboro, NC 27573. Please do not mail anything to the church’s street address.
Set up drafts on your bank account, credit card or debit card. The church office can help you set up regular electronic drafts from a bank account, credit card or debit card. There is a small charge to the church for bank drafts and a 4.5% fee for credit. In order to do this, we need you to fill out a form and return it to us with a voided check attached. You can pick up a form from the church, or we can mail you one, or you can download and print one from the following link: LMUMC Draft Authorization Form Please call or email the church office if you need assistance.
Conversely, you may be able to set up automatic drafts on your bank account from the bank’s side of things. Most banks will mail checks to the church without a fee. Please be sure to use the post office box mailing address for the church.
